Staying safe in the UK Heatwave

This week in the UK we’re seeing consecutive days of a 25C+ heatwave.

Whilst this sounds like beautiful summer sunshine and can be enjoyed, at this temperature we must keep rehydrated and take precautions to avoid feeling the symptoms of dehydration which are very common and often overlooked. Here’s some symptoms to look out for and some tips for staying cool and safe.

Symptoms of heat-related dehydration

  • Headache
  • Dry mouth
  • Drowsiness
  • Dark urine

Tips for staying cool and safe

  • Drink more frequently and eat foods with high water content.
  • Wear loose-fitting clothing in breathable fabrics and a hat
  • Stay in the shade and limit travel and exercise
  • Use fans, ice, and cool showers to reduce your body temperature
  • Wear high SPF suncream.
